Surrounded by homes it is an oasis in the midst of everyday ‘busy’. There is a main trail that goes from one end to the other, NE 165th to NE 170th Street, with side trails for exploring more of Mother Nature. There is also a small children's playground area for their fun and experience.
Although the park is managed by the City of Shoreline, it does not get the attention it deserves due to the shortage of resources. Volunteers are depended on to help get and keep the park healthy and we, as a neighborhood, are willing to do the mid-level restoration.
This effort includes cutting back blackberry vines and grubbing out their roots, removing ivy from the trees and pulling their roots, digging holly out of the ground, pulling ‘volunteer’ chestnuts all of which are not native to the park. Once an area has been cleared, mulching happens and then we take a day or two in the fall to replant native species to help renew and diversify the park.
Much of this work starts in the late winter and wraps up with the planting in the late fall.
Bring your friends and family. No special talent or tools are needed (tools are provided), just your willingness to share part of your day once in a while with the park. The park is grateful for all the effort to help keep it healthy and happy as we continue to enjoy what it provides the neighborhood.
To find out where and when to participate, check out the Shoreline Green City Partnership website. This includes all events that have been scheduled and is updated weekly.
