Each summer, neighborhoods across Shoreline come together for Neighbors Night Out (NNO)—a citywide celebration focused on building community connections, strengthening neighborhood safety, and getting to know one another. In Ridgecrest, Neighbors Night Out is a chance to turn our streets, yards, and shared spaces into welcoming places for conversation, food, and fun, while staying rooted in the unique character of our neighborhood.
Neighbors Night Out is Shoreline’s local version of National Night Out, a nationwide event that promotes community partnerships and neighborhood engagement. Shoreline typically celebrates Neighbors Night Out in early August, with block parties held throughout the city.
In Ridgecrest, Neighbors Night Out is whatever neighbors make it. Past celebrations have included:
Informal block parties on residential streets
Potlucks, BBQs, and shared meals
Kids’ activities, games, and chalk art
Conversations with local volunteers, city staff, or first responders
Simply getting to know the people who live on and around your block
Whether your gathering includes the whole street or just a handful of households, Neighbors Night Out is about connection over complexity—no big production required.
The City of Shoreline actively supports Neighbors Night Out events and removes many common barriers to hosting:
Fees and insurance requirements are waived for block parties held on the official Neighbors Night Out date
Fee waivers also apply to block parties held between July 5 and September 5 (one month before and after NNO)
Neighbors may request temporary street closures if needed
Hosts can request a visit from the Shoreline Police Department, Shoreline Fire Department, or City officials
Note: For Ridgecrest hosts requesting a fee waiver or street closure, the City may require confirmation from the Ridgecrest Neighborhood Association as part of the permit process. Email info@ridgecrestneighborhood.org to request confirmation.
Ridgecrest is known for being a friendly, walkable, and engaged neighborhood. Neighbors Night Out builds on that strength by:
Helping neighbors meet before problems arise
Strengthening informal support networks
Increasing a shared sense of care for our streets and public spaces
Creating opportunities for all ages to feel welcome and included
These small, local connections contribute to a safer, more connected neighborhood year‑round.

The RNA provides support and resources to the Ridgecrest Neighbor Network (RNN), which aims to establish emergency preparedness "pods" on every block of Ridgecrest.
If you are interested in creating a hyperlocal network for support and mutual aid in the event of a disaster (and every day), please join us as we build this new neighborhood resource. A block party is the perfect way to kick off your pod!
